Consultation

The process begins with an initial consultation where several key elements of the portrait are discussed. These include the purpose, vision, and scope of the portrait—along with its physical size, color scheme, and hanging location. During this conversation details regarding the schedule, the framing of the painting, and the attire and location for the upcoming photoshoot are also discussed.

Photoshoot

Once the preliminary focus of the portrait has been established, a face-to-face meeting is scheduled where the artist can become better acquainted with the subject and where reference photos can be taken. A quick color sketch may also be created at this time to help the artist maintain accurate and true-to-life colors throughout the painting proces. This meeting and photoshoot can take place at the subject's home or office, the artist’s studio, or other preferred location.

Painting Process

Utilizing the photos and other information gathered from the previous meetings, the artist creates a layout composition that is sent to the subject for comment and review. Once approval is received, a firm schedule is finalized and work on the final piece then begins.

Work on the final portrait can last several weeks as the artist applies his skill, technique and most diligent effort into creating a masterful piece of artwork. Upon completion of the portrait, the original artwork is either sent to the recipient or, if possible, personally delivered by the artist. The process is completed as the details concerning framing are settled and the preparations for an unveiling party, if desired, are finalized.
